Professional Organizations
Belonging to professional organizations & relevant LinkedIn groups can provide you with networking opportunities as well as assist you with finding internships and jobs. Here are some great academic and professional organizations that we recommend getting involved with:
- Association of Teachers of Technical Writing: Membership is $22/year for students. Members receive the Association’s quarterly journal, Technical Communication Quarterly and can attend and/or present at the annual ATTW conference.
- Rhetoric Society of America: RSA offers memberships for individuals, institutions, and affiliate organizations. Institutional memberships are $300/year, and they include one complimentary student membership, a 25% discount on additional bulk student and/or non-tenure track memberships, and 10% discount on bulk student conference registrations. - CPTSC: CPSTC has individual annual memberships that are $40. With the membership, you can attend annual conferences, ask questions and get answers on their listserv, shareeffective practices, read and contribute to the organization’s journal,Programmatic Perspectives, and apply for CPTSC research grants.
