Are you transferring?:

Are you ready to be a Mountaineer? We can't wait to learn more about you, your goals and how App State can help get you there. Transferring should be simple - our goal is to make it simple. We’ll support you through your Appalachian experience by making sure that classes you take in the meantime will transfer to Appalachian and by guiding you through admission, financial aid, housing, and distance learning processes. You are considered a transfer student if you have completed college coursework since graduating high school, including military-affiliated and second-degree seeking applicants.

To determine what may transfer, use our Transfer Equivalency Course Search. Use the NC Community College Transfer Guides to explore what courses to take before transferring. Admission criteria varies based upon the total number of transferable semester hours of college coursework you will have completed by the time you enroll at App State. Meeting these minimum requirements for admission does not guarantee admission:

Fewer than 24 hours of transferable credit:

  • Applicants will be reviewed based on competitive high school GPA and SAT or ACT scores, and all attempted college coursework (2.25 cumulative college GPA required). NC High School Minimum Course Requirements apply if under the age of 21.

  • Applicants must have earned a C or better in coursework in addition to other requirements for it to be considered transferable.

24 or more hours of transferable credit:

  • Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of at least a 2.25 in all attempted coursework.

  • Applicants must have earned a C or better in coursework in addition to other requirements for it to be considered transferable

Dates and Deadlines:

We recommend you apply at least four months prior to the start of your intended term for access to scholarship opportunities, the on-campus housing application, class registration and more.

  • Spring Admission Deadline: Jan. 1

  • Summer/Fall Admission suggested date to be considered for scholarships/housing: Feb. 1
